Constitutional Execution Infrastructure CEI Book - Appendix F

Appendix F

Replay & Verification Specification

This appendix specifies how Constitutional Execution Infrastructure reconstructs and verifies governed execution from immutable event history. Replay is defined as a deterministic verification process rather than a secondary execution path.

Replay is not repetition. Replay is verification that the recorded history remains internally consistent and produces the same constitutional outcome.

1. Objectives

2. Replay Lifecycle

Select Replay Scope
        ↓
Load Ledger Events
        ↓
Verify Integrity
        ↓
Reconstruct State
        ↓
Re-evaluate Transitions
        ↓
Compare Expected Outcome
        ↓
Generate Replay Report

3. Deterministic Replay Requirements

IDRequirement
RP-001Events are processed in recorded order.
RP-002Replay uses the referenced policy version when available.
RP-003State transitions are validated against the runtime model.
RP-004Integrity failures are reported explicitly.
RP-005Replay results are reproducible for identical inputs.

4. Verification Workflow

State Reconstruction
  ↓
Decision Comparison
  ↓
Verification Result

5. Drift Detection

Replay should identify conditions where reconstructed execution differs from the expected constitutional history. Typical causes include incomplete event history, incompatible policy versions, corrupted records, or unsupported runtime changes.

6. Projection Rebuild

7. Replay Result

FieldDescription
Replay IDUnique replay session identifier.
StatusVerified, Warning, or Failed.
Events ProcessedTotal replayed events.
Integrity ResultOutcome of verification.
DurationReplay execution time.

8. Conformance

Appendix Summary

The Replay & Verification Specification defines how CEI implementations validate historical execution. Together with the runtime, ledger, and governance specifications, replay provides the evidence needed to demonstrate that consequential decisions remain explainable, reproducible, and auditable over time.
